Jacobus Clemens non Papa (c.1510 - 1556/7)  was one of the
greatest Franco-Flemish composers of the post-Josquin generation,
and an influence on later luminaries such as Lassus, Vaet and
DeMonte. His music, rich in sonorities and dissonances, contains
an expressiveness and richness rivaling that of his distinguished
colleagues, Gombert and Crecquillon, in the retinue of Charles V.
Join Polyhymnia as we say
felicem natalem to one of our favorite
composers.

A Mass for
Patrick of Ireland
John Taverner (c.1490-1545)~Missa Gloria tibi Trinitas,
Chant from the Dublin Troper & Irish Sources
Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin was one of Ireland’s major religious
institutions, its musical life rivaling that of any cathedral throughout
Britain. A legacy of the Anglo-Normans who became more Irish than the
Irish themselves, the Irish cathedrals adapted the English Sarum Use to
their own purposes, employing mass proper texts different from continental
and even the English chants. Travel with us as we reconstruct the liturgy of
the Patronal Feast of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin in the years
leading up to the Reformation.

Misterios Ibéricos

Tomás Luis de Victoria (1548-1611)
Missa Vidi speciosam
Motets by Guerrero, Lobo, Victoria & Vivanco
In honor of Early Music America’s 25th Anniversary

The Iberian School is without a doubt, one of the most distinctive of the
diverse regional compositional schools of 16th-Century Europe. Dark,
mysterious, and intensely spiritual, the sacred polyphonic compositions of
this unique company of composers is truly the musical expression of 16th-
century Spanish thought. Come with us and experience this magnificent
repertoire, some familiar and some less so, but all set with the faithful
passion of these exceptional authors of polyphonic fantasy.
